Ohio School Facilities Commission Selects Construction Management Firms
October 23, 2009 (COLUMBUS) – Executive Director Richard C. Murray announced that the Commission has selected firms to provide construction management services for 25 OSFC-funded projects across Ohio.
The construction management companies serve as OSFC’s on-site representatives during the construction process and are, among other duties, responsible for maintaining the construction schedule and the supervision of trade contracting companies. Firms are selected through an intensive competitive process that involves submission of proposals, reviews and evaluations by OSFC staff, and an interview before a selection panel.
Executive Director Murray said he was “very pleased with the results of this year’s process. We purposely looked for firms that emphasized quality construction and had a track record of jobsite performance. These firms indicated their understanding of this agency’s commitment to quality and unwillingness to tolerate substandard work.”
Murray went on to note that the selection was the next step in a process started in July with the announcement of the 25 districts who would be offered construction and renovation funds during the current fiscal year. “The projects represent nearly $1.3 billion in capital investment in Ohio,” Murray said. “We expect the projects to generate about 4,400 employment opportunities annually for the next two years.”
About the Commission
Established in 1997, the Commission is responsible for administering the state’s school construction and renovation program. The Commission has opened over 740 buildings through its programs and fully completed construction and renovation work in 162 school districts across Ohio.
Under the Commission’s Green Schools Initiative, adopted in 2007, all of the buildings will be designed using the energy efficient and environmentally-conscious LEED® for Schools rating system developed by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council. Schools built to this standard have been proven to make a tremendous positive impact on student health, test scores, teacher retention, school operational costs, and the environment.
